What

Prometheus MCP server — lets AI agents execute PromQL queries against a Prometheus instance. Open source.

Why This Matters

Instead of building dashboards Timmy stares at, Timmy could query his own metrics through conversation:

  • "How many commits did I make today?"
  • "What's my sovereignty score trend this week?"
  • "Which agent has the highest task success rate?"

This is the split-brain pattern done right — Prometheus stores the data, Timmy asks questions about it through MCP, no dashboard needed.

Prerequisite

  • Prometheus needs to be running with real data flowing (heartbeat ticks, inference metrics)
  • Depends on Huey being online on Hermes

Evaluate

  • Clone the Prometheus MCP server repo
  • Test with our Prometheus instance
  • Wire into Hermes Agent harness as an MCP tool
  • Sovereignty check: fully local

Closing as duplicate during backlog burn-down. Canonical issue: #617.

Reason: identical title/workstream. Keeping one thread prevents duplicate agent labor and review waste.
