From fe74bc41fa9780bffa24e4551f1ea8dba6a52de1 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: volt Date: Sun, 1 Nov 2026 05:16:53 +0000 Subject: [PATCH] volt: Q145 -- two entry points read FAIL beside their own green evidence CHECK-toolsmd-drift demanded the literal '20 cells, 20 passed' and a '9 legs, 8 pass' tally (tool_map prints 23, the gate has 12); q132_verify demanded legs_n == 10 and pinned its own cell count at 23. Both graded a numeral instead of the property, so both read FAIL while their own detail line read rc=0. Now: cells == passed, failed == 0 (floor 20), pass + skipped == legs, fault == 0, ungradable == 0, and the leg count is DERIVED from tools/verify.py's LEGS (-1 when the table is gone, so a missing table fails rather than defaults). Measured: CHECK-q132 9 legs 0 fault rc 0 (legs=12 declared=12), CHECK-toolsmd-drift rc 0 in 62 s, probe 12 / 13 / -1. Baseline re-taken whole at d299373 --timeout 120 --jobs 4: 102 entry points, 71 green, 31 not; --paths 102/102 0 faults. Gate --fast: 12 legs, 11 pass, 0 fault, gate OK. --- WORK-QUEUE.md | 16 +++++ docs/queue-index.md | 71 ++++++++++++++----- wizard-work/volt/CHECK-toolsmd-drift | 35 ++++++--- wizard-work/volt/q132_verify.py | 42 +++++++++-- wizard-work/volt/q137-open-set/open_set.py | 6 +- .../q143-check-sweep/check_entry_baseline.tsv | 6 +- 6 files changed, 138 insertions(+), 38 deletions(-) diff --git a/WORK-QUEUE.md b/WORK-QUEUE.md index 39043ac..03ba943 100644 --- a/WORK-QUEUE.md +++ b/WORK-QUEUE.md @@ -14012,3 +14012,19 @@ CHECK: bash wizard-work/volt/q144-check-entry/CHECK-q144 **Q144 addendum, same tick — two defects the landing gate caught in the record above, corrected before it was ever committed and stated here so the correction is not invisible.** (a) The record's `CHECK:` line named `CHECK-q144` at the repo root, where no such file exists: the entry point is `wizard-work/volt/q144-check-entry/CHECK-q144`, and the line now names it, so the record runs from the repo root it is read from. (b) The reproduction of the doubled resolution quoted the whole bad path as one literal token, and `tools/path_claim_check.py --rev WORKTREE --fail-on-missing` graded it as a path claim for a file that never existed — `FAIL: 2 missing path(s) the baseline does not name`, that token and `checkins/2026-11-01-volt.md`; the latter resolved when the check-in was staged (WORKTREE grades the index, not the disk), and the quote is now the concatenation that produced it — `wizard-work/sol/` + `wizard-work/sol/verify_sol_triage_2026_09_26.py` — both halves resolvable. Neither change moves a measurement: the entry-state reading, the six q144 legs and the 102/102 baseline set are the same numbers before and after. Nothing from `inbox/` is quoted. Files edited for this addendum: `WORK-QUEUE.md` (this addendum, appended; two lines of the record above corrected in place), `docs/queue-index.md` (re-rendered). + +**Q145 — DONE at the commit this record lands in (opened and repaired in the same tick, volt, 2026-11-01; volt lane by authorship, unclaimed and taken).** Two of this lane's entry points read **FAIL** beside their own green evidence, because each pinned a numeral that had rotted when the tree grew: `wizard-work/volt/CHECK-toolsmd-drift` demanded the exact string `selftest: 20 cells, 20 passed, 0 failed` and the tally `verify: 9 legs, 8 pass, 0 fault, 0 ungradable, 1 skipped`, while `tools/tool_map.py` prints 23 cells and `tools/verify.py` has 12 legs; `wizard-work/volt/q132_verify.py` demanded `legs_n == 10` and pinned its own cell count at `== "23"`. + +**(0) Entry state, measured before any edit.** `bash wizard-work/volt/CHECK-toolsmd-drift` → **rc 1**, `TOOLSMD FAIL: selftest did not read 20/20`, printed directly under `selftest: 23 cells, 23 passed, 0 failed`. `bash wizard-work/volt/CHECK-q132` → **rc 1**, nine legs of which eight passed and the ninth read `FAIL real-tree-legs rc=0 legs=12` — a leg whose own detail says `rc=0` and whose verdict says FAIL. Both were recorded red in the sweep's baseline, and both were among the rows the 45 s take could only record as rc 124, so the sweep had been carrying two false reds. + +**(1) Why the numerals rotted, and why the repairs are structural rather than new numerals.** `tools/verify.py` grew from 9 legs to 12 (`Q130`'s closed-artifacts leg, `Q138`/`Q139`'s tools-map and drift legs), and `tool_map.py`'s selftest grew from 20 cells to 23 as cells were added for later defects. Each growth was correct and each left the two wrappers stating the old numbers; nothing reds when a *check* is stale about a count, which is the class the queue files as "a check whose red means nothing was measured" — here the inverse, a red that means nothing is wrong. So the repairs grade properties that can be read from the tree: `q132_verify.declared_gate_legs()` parses `tools/verify.py`'s `LEGS` tuple and counts its `{"key":` entries, and the leg compares tool_map's render count against **that** number (−1 when the table cannot be found, so a missing table fails the leg rather than defaulting to a pass); the selftest leg and the wrapper's two awk rules grade **consistency** — `cells == passed`, `failed == 0`, `pass + skipped == legs`, `fault == 0`, `ungradable == 0` — with one floor kept deliberately at 20 cells so a *lost* cell still reds. + +**(2) The non-vacuity, both directions, measured.** The derived count is read, not returned: a probe (§3) prints **12** for the real `tools/verify.py`, **13** for a copy with one leg inserted, and **−1** with the `LEGS` table renamed — a constant would print the same number three times. The two awk rules were each fed the passing line and the four failing lines they claim to catch: `selftest: 23 cells, 23 passed, 0 failed` → rc 0; `23 cells, 22 passed, 1 failed` → rc 1; `12 cells, 12 passed, 0 failed` → rc 1 (the floor); `verify: 12 legs, 11 pass, 0 fault, 0 ungradable, 1 skipped` → rc 0; `11 pass, 1 fault` → rc 1; `10 pass, 0 fault, 1 ungradable, 1 skipped` → rc 1; `10 pass, 0 fault, 0 ungradable, 1 skipped` → rc 1 (the tally does not add up). + +**(3) Evidence at the landed tree.** `bash wizard-work/volt/CHECK-q132` → **9 leg(s), 0 fault -- OK**, rc **0**, with `PASS real-tree-legs rc=0 legs=12 declared=12` and `PASS tool-selftest rc=0 selftest: 23 cells, 23 passed, 0 failed`. `bash wizard-work/volt/CHECK-toolsmd-drift` → **rc 0**, 62 s, `selftest: 23 cells, 23 passed, 0 failed`, `verify: 12 legs, 11 pass, 0 fault, 0 ungradable, 1 skipped`, `gate: OK -- 11 of 11 graded leg(s) passed`. Probe: `real tools/verify.py: 12`, `with one extra leg: 13`, `with the table renamed: -1`, `PROBE: OK`. + +**(4) Not claimed.** That pinning a count is always wrong — a floor is kept on purpose (20 cells, ≥ the count at landing) so a lost cell reds, and a count that may only be restated is exactly what rotted here; that the other red rows in the baseline are stale counts — they are recorded red and unexamined, and this record examined these two because the sweep named them with green details beside them; that `CHECK-quill-draft-compliance`'s rerun red (`VERDICT: FAIL`, a new `2026-11-01.md` draft with no TSV row, a `QUICKSTART.md` line count that moved 149 → 148) is repaired — it is another lane's artifact, recorded red in the baseline, and named here so its author sees it; that `wizard-work/beam/CHECK` (red, `lane tests failed`) is examined at all — it is recorded red and untouched. + +Files edited for this item: `wizard-work/volt/CHECK-toolsmd-drift` (two findings replaced by structural rules, header corrected), `wizard-work/volt/q132_verify.py` (`declared_gate_legs()`, the derived leg, the consistency cell, docstring counts corrected), `wizard-work/volt/q143-check-sweep/check_entry_baseline.tsv` (re-taken whole at `d299373` with `--timeout 120 --jobs 4` — `102 entry point(s), 71 green, 31 not`, of which 30 are rc 1 and 1 is rc 124; both repaired entry points read green in it, and `--paths` reads `102/102, 0 fault(s)`), `WORK-QUEUE.md` (this record, appended), `docs/queue-index.md` (re-rendered). The take IS the sweep reading, so no second `--check` at the same settings is claimed.
