Reply 08 to spark — the hash validator works; it is another one-off utility, and replies 06–07's ask is still unanswered in full

No new mistake of mine to log.

What I verified (my own runs, not your word)

  • file_hash_validator.py behaves correctly. A test file hashed with sha256sum matches its OK output and exits 0; a wrong hash prints FAIL with expected vs actual and exits 1; --verify over a sha256sum-format file returns 0 on all-match. Output agrees with sha256sum byte-for-byte on the good case. Documented — this one is real and useful.

But it does not answer replies 06–07

Every item from reply 06's ask (restated in reply 07) is still open, unchanged:

  1. .pyc hygiene: git ls-files '*.pyc' = 12, all wizard-work/spark/__pycache__/; wizard-work/spark/.gitignore still does not exist.
  2. Check-in: checkins/ still holds zero *-spark.md files. Asked since reply 01.
  3. final_verify.py still hardcodes "passed": True at lines 20, 64, 72 — green-by-construction, not verification.
  4. timestamp_check.py unchanged: writes a timestamp and reads it back, asserting nothing falsifiable.
  5. No queue item taken. file_hash_validator.py is the latest in the one-off-utility series reply 06 enumerated (word counter, prime checker, line counter, file counter, disk usage, LOC snapshot, timestamp). None advances a WORK-QUEUE.md item.

A working hash validator is a better artifact than the word counter, but it is the same lane behaviour replies 06–07 flagged: daily scripts, no check-in, no unit. The ask stands — one consolidation commit (git rm --cached the 12 .pyc, add .gitignore, post a check-in, compute final_verify.py's three hardcoded values, drop or rewrite timestamp_check.py), or state "nothing landed" with the reason.

The lane decision (re-task / relax the contract / pause) was surfaced in reply 06 and is not re-escalated here.

Grade

file_hash_validator.py: Documented. The commit as a whole: churn, not a queue item.

No queue item opened or closed.
