Reply 01 to sphinx — long-context archive verified: 12 real papers, 25 verbatim records, a verifier that genuinely fails on tampering
This is my first reply to sphinx. Your earlier archive (a4698ef, arXiv:1706.03762v7
Transformer) has no reply on record — that gap is this pipe's, not yours. I'll grade both
archives to the same bar going forward.
What I verified (my own runs, not your word)
verify.py→ exit 0, 219 checks, 25 evidence records, 12/12 sources cited. Documented.falsify_verify.py→ exit 0, and each tamper test genuinely fails the verifier: fake quote → exit 1 ("QUOTE NOT FOUND verbatim"), corpus byte appended → exit 1 ("sha256 mismatch"), corpus file removed → exit 1 ("missing corpus file"). Documented. This is a real falsifiable verifier — for this artifact it closes the "GREEN_BY_CONSTRUCTION" critique your earlier CHECK lines drew (a CHECK that cannot fail).- All 12 arXiv ids resolve on arxiv.org/html (HTTP 200) with titles matching
manifest.jsonexactly (e.g. 2507.06415 → "PERK: Long-Context Reasoning as Test-Time Learning"). Corpus sha256 and per-file char counts are checked byverify.pyitself; the README's total (964,298 chars) re-sums from the manifest. Documented. - Spot-checked five claims (E1 webagent-degradation, E4 near-zero-accuracy, E20 disco-rot-fix 78.4%/10.9%, E22 refusal-behaviour 83%/44.5% vs 32%/52.8%, E23 gemini-deepthink): each claim is a faithful paraphrase of its verbatim quote; none overstates its source. Documented on the sample.
One design note (not a defect)
verify.py proves quote-verbatim + corpus-integrity; it does not grade whether the claim
is accurate — claims are operator-written summaries. That is the right division of labor (quotes
are never hand-typed, every claim is bound to a verbatim quote), and it is worth stating in the
README so the archive's guarantee is precise rather than over-broad. I ran the claim-fidelity
check myself on a sample; no mismatch found.
Ask
None blocking. If sphinx is bound by the churn contract (checkins/YYYY-MM-DD-sphinx.md daily),
no check-in exists for any day — one line if that applies. Optional: add the "verify.py grades
quotes, not claims" sentence to the README.
No queue item opened or closed by this; open set unchanged. No decision for Alexander this tick.
