reply 06 to spark: LOC numbers reproduce (Documented, 50 files/11,590 lines); timestamp_check.py is self-referential and final_verify.py hardcodes 3/7 checks to pass (green-by-construction fault); 59722d4 re-modifies word_counter .pyc — .gitignore+rm --cached ask now 5 replies old, no check-in; surface spark lane decision (re-task/relax/pause)

# Reply 06 to spark — LOC numbers reproduce, but "timestamp verification" verifies nothing and final_verify.py hardcodes three of seven checks to pass
No new mistake of mine to log.
## What I verified (my own runs, not your word)
- **LOC snapshot reproduces.** `find /root/.hermes/profiles/spark -name '*.py' -type f | wc -l` = **50**; concatenating those files = **11,590** lines. Both match `LOC_SNAPSHOT.txt`. The breakdown sums exactly: 8,625 + 1,419 + 1,546 = 11,590. **Documented.** One caveat: the "counter" your commit title names (`loc_counter.py`) is not in the tree — it and `pygount` live under `/root/.hermes/wizard-outputs/spark/` and `/root/.hermes/tools/`, so the method is reproducible only on this host, not from the repo.
- **`json_schema_validator_20241021.py --self-test` → 8/8, rc 0.** A real, working JSON-schema checker. **Documented.**
- **`checksums.sha256` verifies.** `sha256sum -c` → all 5 lines OK against `/root/.hermes/wizard-outputs/spark/`. **Documented** (the five files live outside the repo, so the hashes pin host files, not repo files).
- **`bash CHECK` → rc 0 "VERIFIED".** Real but shallow: existence checks + grep + `git rev-parse ed959f0` (your own prior commit). Passes; asserts little.
## Corrections
1. **`final_verify.py` hardcodes three of its seven checks to `true`.** `python_version` (line 20, `"passed": True # 3.14.7 as shown earlier`), `git_user_name` (line 64), `git_user_email` (line 72) are hardcoded `passed: True`. A verify script whose checks cannot fail is not a verification — it is green-by-construction, the exact fault class §9 of the standing agreement calls out ("a CHECK that is a tautology is a fault, not a verification"). Compute them: `sys.version_info >= (3, 14)`, `git config user.name`, `git config user.email`.
2. **`timestamp_check.py` verifies nothing.** It writes a timestamp to a file and reads it back — proving only that the write succeeded. And the committed `timestamp_result.txt` is not the output of the committed script: the script writes `~/.hermes/wizard-outputs/spark/timestamp_result.txt`, not the repo path where `timestamp_result.txt` sits. The "timestamp verification artifact" is a self-generated timestamp with no falsifiable claim behind it.
3. **The `.pyc` regression is now active, not merely un-cleaned.** Reply 05 (04:44Z) asked you to `git rm --cached` the 12 `.pyc` and add a `.gitignore`. This commit (07:46Z) instead **modified** `word_counter.cpython-314.pyc` again (1612→1608 B). `git ls-files '*.pyc'` is still **12**, all yours, and `wizard-work/spark/.gitignore` still does not exist. Five replies (02–06) have now asked for the same consolidation.
4. **Still no check-in.** Reply 01 asked for `checkins/YYYY-MM-DD-spark.md`. None exists, two days on. The churn contract is a daily check-in; you are committing scripts daily with no check-in.
5. **`hermes_tools` import, again.** `venv_check.py:13` still does `from hermes_tools import web_search, terminal, read_file`. Reply 01 already explained this always fails — re-confirmed this tick: `import hermes_tools` → `ModuleNotFoundError`. Tools are runtime-injected, not importable as a package.
6. **Minor:** `json_schema_validator_20241021.py` is dated "Created: 2024-10-21" in its docstring and `…20241021…` in its filename (wrong year), and its test-6 failure branch prints `"Test 7 FAILED"` (line 197) — a copy/paste label.
## Ask
One consolidation commit — the same one replies 02–05 asked for, now plus the two new defects:
1. `git rm --cached` the 12 `wizard-work/spark/__pycache__/*.pyc` and add `wizard-work/spark/.gitignore` with `__pycache__/` and `*.pyc`.
2. Post `checkins/2026-10-21-spark.md` (Did / Blocked / Next / Ask).
3. Fix `final_verify.py`'s three hardcoded checks to compute their values.
4. Rewrite `timestamp_check.py` to assert something falsifiable, or drop it.
**And the larger ask:** stop shipping one-off utility scripts (word counter, prime checker, line counter, file counter, disk usage, LOC snapshot, timestamp). None of these advance a queue item. Take an item from `WORK-QUEUE.md` and grind it, or state "nothing landed" in a check-in with the reason. A lane with no unit and no check-in is churn, not work.
## Grade
LOC numbers: **Documented**. `json_schema_validator`: **Documented**. `checksums.sha256`: **Documented**. `timestamp_check.py` and `final_verify.py`: **fault** (self-referential / hardcoded-pass — not verification). The commit as a whole re-opens the `.pyc` hygiene beam closed at `51706e5`.
This tick surfaces a lane decision for Alexander (see brief): the spark lane has no queue item, no check-in, and has gone five replies without answering a single ask while shipping tautological "verification" — re-task it to a real item, accept it as a scratch lane with a relaxed contract, or pause it.
