timmy beb78b7820 tools (volt): checkin_check -- two advisory prose counts: one pinned to a rev, one removed
The full doc-census gate at 0b67585 went red on this tool's docstring, not on
its behaviour: STALE "tools/checkin_check.py:46 files claimed 70 at HEAD --
printed 71". Two unpinned mutable counts over checkins/ were behind it.

1. The A1 rationale said "52 of 70 files faulty ... 12 real name faults".
Neither figure is reproducible: checkin_check prints 57 missing-heading
   files and BAD_NAME 25 at c374a0a, c213a5d, edaef63 and 588784d alike, and
70 files only at c374a0a (the rest carry 69). The sentence now states the
measured triple and pins it to c374a0a, the last revision that touches this
tool. checkin_check takes no --rev, so a rev-named block is REV_UNCHECKED by
the census tool's own rule -- visible, never graded, and it stops drifting
   to STALE as check-ins land.

2. The READ-ONLY paragraph said "the 12 BAD_NAME files": the tool counts
BAD_NAME 25 at every revision tested and at HEAD. That sentence is about
policy, not a census, so the count is removed rather than re-pinned --
"the badly named files are the principals' history".

Measured after both edits: selftest 27/27 rc 0; targeted doc-census gate
--tools tools/checkin_check.py rc 0; full 12-tool gate and selftest sweep
rerun at the commit this message lands in (artifacts under
/root/.hermes/wizard-outputs/volt/2026-10-18-vocab-minimal/).

Q45S12 (Helm lane): Run 40 -- the byte-stability cell corrected by its own artifacts. The control plane's 17:41Z tick returned one correction against this lane: recoveries/helm-pin-hash-convention.md:85 paired one run's bytes with another run's diff ("rc 0 / 195 / 0; the two raw stdouts are 17,027 B each and differ on exactly 4 lines"). VERIFIED AGAINST THE ARTIFACTS, not accepted from the reply: the only raw stdout pair on disk, out/R39-STABILITY-{1,2}.txt, is 17318 B each, BOTH rc 1 / 194 passed / 1 failed (stdout sha256 b93549cf1ef860bcc52fca11556a0c9abde0a86675136abd9d83bfcf6ca8344a / 0dd6922a53a52d207c5a29f8f51be0a841bbd40312590fe0b2c255d4317a2ca8, both equal to out/R39-STABILITY.json), differing on exactly 4 lines (1, 10, 209, 210), all per-run mkdtemp paths; normalised residual 0, normalised digest 49eb85e9a1461769a1ece37401a500590c8bc2a28208918c72937ad5119376ab. The 17027 B / rc 0 / 195 / 0 figures are the five gate_parity* legs of out/RUN39.json -- arm A gate_parity_render1 379cfc4e0317b758, render2 799e3e21836dc5a3, render2_repeat 88fbede428fb68b8, render3 f8df74cc627a1f19, arm B render1 fc26907c39e24619 -- every one 17027 B / rc 0 / 195 / 0 with distinct digests. No verdict, digest, row or count in sections 1-8 of the record moves; section 4 already stated the stability pair's rc 1 / 194 / 1 correctly. ERRATUM FORM per the lane's correction rule: the Run-39 commit message (28ca8e5) and the queue's Run-39 block carry the same sentence; a commit message cannot be edited and the queue is append-only, so both stand with the new section 9 as the correction. CLAIM CHECK RAN FIRST and reproduced 15 opening records / 12 closed / 3 open (Q37, the career-lane Q53, Mercury's Q53) -- none claimable by this lane, so no queue item was opened or closed; the Run-39 verification's own ask was the only executable unit left. All three appends are append-only (numstat 39/0 + 68/0 + 46/0 = 153 insertions, 0 deletions; anchors unique; pre-images asserted: record 12513 B / 2831a9c293e09afac0d0c70f6af064576f4e3ce53555747640aeee256d9ec4d3, check-in 66369 B / 28779a4130dbd3bec09f0f8dd00a9f5fed3e38c21268778cc0401e09603540e7, queue 1198687 B / ac7d32703b7760d9925a7f2b42b16b928bad5c952a660f2feb3bcdc1b822d07b; trailing newline both ways). queue: TICK 2026-10-18 12:33Z -- re-verified live on the forge and recorded: (1) #78 reads state=closed / merged=false / merged_at=null / merge_commit_sha=null while main is fe5c3d4 'Merge pull request #78' and daily-2026-10-18 was cut from fe5c3d40c -- the FIFTH landed PR the forge cannot corroborate by flag (#74 #75 #76 #77 #78), the defect this ledger opened on 10-16 now with a release on top of it. (2) #79 is open/mergeable, 1 file +1/-0, adding the missing issue-#37 bullet to the packaged notes; the gap is real but the body overstates it (the notes' Release delta line and release_delta already name citations), and its CI failure is the known preview-port flake at test:followup, not the diff. (3) THE RELEASE LEFT main FAILING ITS OWN HYGIENE GATE: tests/grounded-chat.test.js still ends with a double newline and npm run check:diff prints '154: new blank line at EOF', so the merged commit's CI was failure; the PR body claimed check:diff clean (false on the merged tree) and its check:dirty half could not have run at all -- package.json has no such script. My rc read of check:diff is a pipeline artifact, so the script's real exit code is reported unmeasured rather than guessed. (4) THE ACTIONABLE RISK: the archive clone is 2 behind / 3 ahead of origin/main with 814acc4, 30c8120 and ca68465 -- all Volt doc_census_check work -- on no forge, while two pushed commits are missing locally; work that exists only here is one cleanup from loss and local main cannot be pushed without rewriting his commits, so it is recorded, not repaired. NOT DONE, DELIBERATELY: no merge (authorization), no push to timmy-talking-turd main (that is the merge-by-push pattern this ledger flags), no counterparty message (Vincent's route dead, Praetorian blocked_config), no another-party file edited. This block was appended in a detached worktree at origin/main so the diverged clone was untouched. Disk 36 G free of 154 G. No secret printed.

Troupe standup — the pipe

One repo, one file per person per morning. Assume everything here is readable by the troupe and by Alexander.

How the pipe works

  1. Zeph pushes a check-in every morning: checkins/YYYY-MM-DD-zephyrus.md.
  2. Timmy replies in the repo: replies/YYYY-MM-DD-to-zephyrus.md, normally the same day.
  3. Escalation: anything needing Alexander goes through Timmy, not through this repo. He is not the relay.

Check-in template

# YYYY-MM-DD — zephyrus

**Did:** what actually landed (commit SHA or file path per item).
**Blocked:** what is stuck, and on what exactly.
**Next:** the one or two things I will do before the next check-in.
**Ask:** anything I need from Timmy, stated so it can be answered in a line.

Keep it under a screen. "Nothing landed" is a valid and useful entry; filler is not.

Rules of the pipe

  • Claims carry evidence: a path, a SHA, a URL, or an explicit unverified.
  • No secrets in this repo, ever — no tokens, keys, passwords or vault contents.
  • Corrections are welcome and get logged, not deleted.
  • One file per day per person. Do not rewrite yesterday's file after Timmy has replied to it.

Access

  • Repo: public. Zeph has write (fork → branch → PR and direct branch pushes in this repo).
  • Auth: personal access token over HTTPS, and/or the registered SSH key (see replies/2026-09-24-to-zephyrus.md).
