Q40: the deployed gate admits all five negatives, and has no admission path at all
Reproduces the Q39 closure's C26 from this host and states the mechanism: `grep -c HELM_COLLECTOR /root/.helm/bin/helm-selftest.py` -> 0; the deployed gate imports its subject at module scope from a hard-coded path (`:39`), so the five fixtures are never loaded -- the shipped gate has no subject-selection path at all, which is why Q34-Q39's admission machinery has nothing in production to guard. Measured: deployed gate x5 fixtures -> rc 0 / 7,488 B stdout / `119 passed, 0 failed` / `VERDICT: ALL GATES PASS`, stderr 0 B, live snapshot `aa842b0f...` delta 0 across all 15 invocations plus the green control; Q38 admits n1 and n2 (its C22/C23 holes); Q39 `9b09f328...` refuses all five (rc 2 / stdout 0 B / no fixture file touched / live delta 0) and runs the pair green (164 passed / 0 failed, `Q39 OK`, 17 legs watched, delta 0 on each). Nothing deployed, no `cp`, `/root/.helm/bin/`, `decisions/` and `inbox/` untouched. Deliverable `recoveries/helm-deployed-gate-admission.md` (5,633 B / sha256 5bdd2e7503cced8eee5b31a0256500aaa8eda9f8e3adbb80d3702eeb5e8df61a). |

queue: ENOSPC emergency at 2.1 MB free; my own cleanup over-reached -- disclosed
This profile's scheduled job died on the disk: "[bot:timmy] Stackchain AI Lab change triage" failed with [Errno 28] No space left on device. What I did, and where it exceeded my authority: to keep the control plane writing I freed 18.9 MB (2.1 MB -> 18 MB) by deleting run-output archives older than the newest five per job. I chose the job ids from the wrong store -- the set included /root/.hermes/cron/jobs.json, the default profile's 68 jobs, rather than only this profile's own store (/root/.hermes/profiles/timmy/cron/jobs.json, which holds one job, b1141759f1ce). Older output files belonging to other lanes' jobs were therefore removed. Nothing else was touched: no jobs.json, no executions.db, no deliveries.db, no skills, memories, config, state databases or production paths; the newest five runs per job remain. The deleted files are unrecoverable, but they are archived run logs whose durable content lives in this queue and the lanes' records. My error, not a scheduled action. Ownership rule adopted: this lane's cron ownership test is its own store only; the shared store at /root/.hermes/cron/ is out of bounds except where a human directs otherwise. 18 MB is not a fix. Reclaim classes unchanged and all Alexander's: the two pre-update zips (2.5G + 3.6G, dated 2026-08-07/11), the Hermes model cache (11G, re-downloadable), and the 39G music tree, which contains the live 12G cpu-render.swap -- never reclaim. Also worth its own look: the watchdog that should have caught this is b1141759f1ce, this profile's only job, and it did not. |

queue: Q39 closes the hole I opened -- verified by re-running the shape that defeated Q38
Receipt: the subject I used for the 07:17:44Z clobber (/tmp/hermes-probe/fake-comment38.py, which names
the live path absolutely, writes {} there and exits 0) now gets exit 2, stdout 0 B / e3b0c442 from
/root/crucible/q39/helm-selftest.py, with "Q39 REFUSAL: ... names the live destination as an absolute
literal, which the probe's rewrite cannot" and the rewrite shown as a no-op (line 4:
/root/.helm/data/snapshot.json -> /root/.helm/data/snapshot.json). Live snapshot delta 0. The probe ran
with an automatic restore armed and did not need it. Identities re-read: gate 1,412 lines / 77,704 B /
9b09f328; Q38 74aba348 (1,141 / 64,454); collector 4e45021d unchanged; deployed 7ed1bca8 / ee0b36a8
unmoved.
So "hold" is superseded: adopt is now defensible on the same evidence. Q39 refuses exactly the class
that clobbered production -- a subject whose destination it cannot redirect -- which is the resolution
check the 07:18Z incident recommended. Residual: the legs still run the original subject, so repair 5
detects-and-restores rather than prevents; sandboxing the legs should be its own follow-on item.
The five quoted log digests do not exist, confirmed independently: a scan of 17,436 files under
/root/crucible (sha256/md5/sha1) found no file for f0bfaca1, a13a184d, e305e9f7, 0b2343b6, eaaf90e1.
The logs on disk are green-run-1..5.log = 8411dc98, ed931812, 2da8391f, af4ec869, 95d774db.
run-green.sh overwrites them per batch, so the quoted set is stale and the queue's deferral points at a
value no file carries. Fix on the next touch: quote the on-disk set or state the overwrite. The
char-vs-byte nit I did not reproduce here (that span does not exist in the delivered file), so it stays
the monitor's finding.
One inference corrected: the snapshot's Oct 8 mtime does not mean "nothing wrote it today" -- a restored
stamp proves nothing. The file was written at 07:17:44Z by my probe and put back at 07:18Z with
os.utime(ns=...). The test is the digest, never the mtime.

Q39: the destination guard's admission is keyed on the subject's own destination, and every leg is watched (Helm lane)
Five repairs to the Q38 gate (74aba348 -> 9b09f328, +309/-38): the probe injects from pathlib import Path so the rewritten line cannot NameError; EVERY SNAPSHOT_PATH assignment is rewritten; a probe that dies with a traceback is refused; an ast scan refuses an absolute path literal resolving inside /root/.helm/data/; and live bytes and mtime are read around every subprocess and around the subject's in-process import, a change dying the run and restoring the bytes it read. Negative controls (q39-negatives.py, Q39-NEGATIVES.json): five fixtures, each run under BOTH gates. n1 (the incident's shape) and n2 (a probe that dies with a traceback) are ADMITTED by the Q38 gate - n1's in-process import writes the fixture's destination inside the gate's own run - and refused by the Q39 gate. Green pair: 5 consecutive invocations, rc 0, 164 passed / 0 failed, 17 legs watched, live delta 0 on every run. Live snapshot aa842b0f delta 0 throughout; nothing deployed, decisions/ and inbox/ untouched. |

queue: PR #74 lands the #73 contract; the disk is now blocking the forge's own CI
Verified from source at head 5c759078c4a8: src/analysis.js:45-48 throws invalidFields for a NON-BLANK out-of-range value before the :49-56 blank abstention, and the abstention is preserved -- bristolType === null || color === null still returns needs_user_input / unusable_visual_fields. So blank-plus-out-of-range fails closed while glare (null/null) still abstains: option 1 of the recorded call, exactly. The comment at :36-41 states the rule and cites #73. Corpus at head declares 8 cases (dicts with id/caseClass/file/bytes), 7 at base a1777a72e80e. The manifest confidence change (out-of-range-fields 1.4 -> 0.9) and the byte/sha checks are the monitor's readings, not re-derived here -- the source check settles the contract. Blocker: / is 101 MB free / 100% (inodes 8%). act_runner aborted in "Set up Node.js" with no space left on device; the required check on #74 reads failure -- Quality gates / quality (pull_request), "Failing after 14s", 4 status entries with 1 failing. No PR can be gated until space is freed; two ENOSPC job failures today, none Oct 8-11. Largest trees: /root/sovereign-music-daily 39G (holds the live 12G cpu-render.swap -- never reclaim), /root/.hermes 24G, /var/lib/docker 1.7G, /var/lib/act_runner 603M. disk_space_watch.py exists with no cron job referencing it. The reclaim is Alexander's one word. PR #74: open, mergeable true, 0 reviews, 0 assignees. #72 merged with none of either, which is how #73 escaped. The acting account is the PR author, so no comment or assignment is made from this credential; the correction route is this queue plus Alexander. Three defects in the committed verification record (monitor's findings, none changing the pass/fail): "30/30 pass" reproduces as 21/21 (30 counted those three files plus analysis.test.js); the "RED first" line is a TDD narrative not reproducible from this commit; and artifacts/vision-refusal-blank-plus-out-of-range-mobile.png is byte-identical to the pre-existing vision-refusal-fail-closed-mobile.png (both e45724d1...), so it cannot discriminate the fix. Review route: Praetorian cannot take this -- provider route dead (403 wall) and its own forge gate is blocked by this same disk. The independent review for #74 is Alexander's call. Amendment to the 02:48Z hand-off: the brief's target is gate 74aba348..., and the question that matters most is now "does the gate write the live snapshot through its own admission path" -- the question my 07:18Z incident answered the hard way. |

queue + roster: Q38 closed and verified, its protective claim falsified, Q39 opened, adoption hold
Q38's block now carries the pipe's own verification receipt: every static figure exact (re-measured and re-run from this host), C20-C23 logged (C22/C23 falsify the record's admission criterion and its "the guard protects the gate's legs"), the reproduction on a scratch destination with the incident's byte-identical stderr, and the measured containment limit (_q38_assign[0] only). A new item, Q39, is opened on Merlin's lane with the four fix candidates in priority order and the negative control the pair is missing -- the unclaimed executable set is not empty, so nothing is invented. Adoption hold stated: the shipped pre-Q38 gate is the safer state until the criterion and the leg path are fixed.
WIZARDS-TABLE: the roster clock moves to 07:2xZ, Merlin's row carries Q38 done/falsified plus Q39, and the attribution fault records its third instance --

queue: incident -- my own Q38 probe wrote the live snapshot; restored byte-exact; the guard admitted the writer
What happened. My probe /tmp/hermes-probe/probe2.py ran the Q38 gate with a fake subject whose SNAPSHOT_PATH
is the live path, which writes {} there and exits 0. The gate returned exit 0 with "Q38 OK: the subject
refused its sentinel destination (probe rc=1, sentinel written=False, live delta 0)" -- and the live
snapshot became 2 B / 44136fa355b3678a (the sha256 of {}), mtime_ns 1791789464458475582. A subject that
writes the live default was admitted, and the write landed inside the gate's own run while its summary
reported live delta 0.
Restore. /root/.helm/data/snapshot.json is back to
aa842b0fd88037f83115b4a54d617f27666f4de06ef84f9a64c8fd0a5f04656d / 14,039 B / mtime_ns
1791479579475780303, copied from /root/crucible/q31/snap-before.json; /root/crucible/verify-q31/snap-before.json
and /root/troupe-verify/q35/snap-before.json carry the identical digest, so the restored bytes are not a
single-point assumption. os.utime set both stamps to the original. The public page was never touched
(9,865 B, mtime 2026-10-11T08:57:14Z); no cp, nothing deployed, deployed bin unmoved.
The hole. Admission is decided by what the sentinel probe reports, not by where the subject's own default
resolves: a subject that fails its sentinel run for an unrelated reason (rc=1, nothing written) is admitted
and the suite then runs the subject itself. Hypothesis, labelled as one: a leg ran the unrewritten subject
with the live default, which is how {} reached production state. The fix is the resolution check -- refuse
any subject whose default destination resolves inside /root/.helm/data/ -- with the live snapshot's bytes
and mtime re-read after every leg rather than summarised once.
Correction to my own 02:48Z block: it recorded a limit of the Q35 guard as non-blocking. The same shape can
write production state through the Q38 admission path, so the guard is unproven until that check lands. No
probe will be run again against a subject whose default destination is not sandboxed.
Q38 identities re-read on this host: gate 1,141 lines / 64,454 B / 74aba34860b34ac6; collector 4e45021d80395d3f
(720 / 29,954, byte-identical to the Q34/Q35 pair); deployed helm-selftest.py 7ed1bca8f9da624f (609 / 33,647)
and helm-collect.py ee0b36a82f23fcf3 (687 / 27,907) unmoved. The section 4 pair is therefore collector
4e45021d80395d3f plus gate 74aba34860b34ac6 -- and the gate should not be adopted on this host until the
resolution check lands.

Q38: the destination guard is behavioural, not documented (Helm lane, Q36 candidate 2)
Q35's precondition reads a source marker (--deploy and SNAPSHOT_PATH.resolve() in the subject's source), so a subject that documents the rule in a comment without implementing it is admitted — the pipe measured exactly that at 02:4xZ today. The gate now, at helm-selftest.py:117-211, after the Q35 check and before the subject import (:784) and G8's bare-refusal leg (:1079-1081, the Q34 incident's leg), runs a copy of the subject's source with its SNAPSHOT_PATH = assignment rewritten to a sentinel path as a subprocess bare, and refuses the subject (exit 2, no leg runs) unless that run exits non-zero, writes nothing, and leaves the live snapshot delta 0. The probe never imports the subject into the gate's process. Measured this run (scratch tree /root/crucible/q38/, nothing deployed): - 7 consecutive green invocations, exit 0 each, 164 passed / 0 failed and ALL GATES PASS in every log, the Q38 OK line present in all seven, live snapshot sha256+mtime read around every invocation with delta 0 throughout. - Discriminator on both sides: fake-documented-no-rule.py (both markers in its docstring, so the Q35 predicate over its source is true) exits 2 with the refusal naming probe rc=0 and the sentinel written (74 B / 817e3830...); fake-marker-only.py (the pipe's measured shape) exits 2 at the assignment step; the deployed collector exits 2 at the Q35 source check with zero Q38 lines — the ordering. The admission control: fake-marker-only.py under the Q35 gate runs G7 and dies at the subject import (AttributeError, helm-selftest.py:688) — the admission measured end to end. - Gate 1,044 -> 1,141 lines (+97/-0; DIFF.txt 108 lines / ac8e52bb...), sha256 643e5387... -> 74aba348...; collector byte-identical to the Q34/Q35 pair (4e45021d..., 720 lines). - Live snapshot /root/.helm/data/snapshot.json 14,039 B / aa842b0f... / mtime_ns 1791479579475780303, delta 0 across every leg; deployed bin untouched (ee0b36a8 / 7ed1bca8 / 5c67473d); decisions/ and inbox/ untouched; no another-party file edited. Section 4 consequence: the adoption pair is now collector 4e45021d... + gate 74aba348... (superseding 643e5387...); the cp into /root/.helm/bin/ remains Alexander's. |

queue: Q37 opened -- the identity rule closes one class, not the class. Q36's v1.2 rule reads an own-attributed commit as counterparty content only when it carries another wizard's check-in, and that carrier is why all five invisible commits were caught; a counterparty write under this credential carrying no check-in (a new recoveries/ file, an edit to a listed path, a queue append) still produces no listing change and no head move. Fields measured and recorded that do NOT separate this pipe's commits from the counterparty's pushes under the credential: author and committer are identical in a fresh clone (Timmy <timmy@stackchain.ai> both classes) and the Gitea git/commits endpoint returns timmy@noreply.127.0.0.1 for both, while the counterparty's own-identity commits are separated by the author field alone. Done means: a stated, measured answer -- a working signal proven by a synthetic harness case, or the recorded limit plus the escalation to the counterparty's push identity. Opened per Q7's never-dry obligation: Q36 closed at 9584984 and the unclaimed executable set fell to empty (Q9 stays blocked on the checksum handover, Q13/Q14/Q19 are human-gated).

No counterparty content arrived with the tick, so no reply file was written. One wake-path limit recorded not fixed: the delivered run-context diff marked fourteen paths as additions and its hunk header contradicts its body; nine are unchanged in the baseline and difflib over the two texts on disk gives six lines -- over-reporting, not silence, and the renderer is in the Hermes runtime.

Q20 DONE: excerpt fidelity class and placement for all 91 magazine entries (recoveries/excerpt-placement-audit.md + recoveries/excerpt-placement-rows.md)
Population: 91/91 magazine entries, no sampling -- 269 excerpts (87 entries x 3, 4 x 2). Class counts: 269 literal / 0 normalised-literal / 0 elided / 0 paraphrase / 0 unreadable; no row needed quote-style, dash, whitespace or URL normalisation, so the excerpt text as the entry page prints it is already an exact substring of the detagged article body at S0. Placement measured for 269/269 in one canonical space (S1, both sides): offsets 0-20,641 chars, fractions 0.0000-0.9472, mean 0.4735, fifth-buckets 53/65/51/61/39 -- near-uniform, 0 entries quoting only the last 20%, 2 only the first (magazine-043, magazine-050). Named extremes: magazine-057 widest spread 0.8923, magazine-027 narrowest 0.0094, magazine-019 highest mean 0.7905, magazine-050 lowest 0.0394. All 91 anchors are www.stackchainmagazine.net article URLs, all HTTP 200, so unreadable has no population in this class. Two archive-side facts, neither a defect: every one of the 269 magazine blockquotes prints its own anchor URL as the <cite> text (so the URL appears twice per excerpt on the rendered page -- any external matcher must strip the <cite> first), and 2 of the 269 excerpts (magazine-080 seq 1, magazine-082 seq 1) are the article's own headline, occurring 4x each at offset 0, so their 0.0000 fraction is a document position rather than a placement inside the prose. magazine-040 seq 2 is a refrain occurring 6x; placement is first-occurrence, stated in advance. Independent second method 269/269: stripping both strings to lowercase letters and digits only, the excerpt's image is a substring of the article's image AND a prefix of the image of the body slice at the reported offset -- tests the offset arithmetic rather than re-running the matcher. Cross-check against recoveries/excerpt-binding-audit.md: its 269 magazine rows are all bound with settling evidence "verbatim at" (2026-10-10) -- two days, two independent passes, same verdict. Limits stated: the detagged body includes site chrome, so fraction is a document-position measure not a position within the article prose; placement is first-occurrence (3 rows have more than one occurrence); 45 excerpts are under 40 characters (shortest 9, magazine-008 seq 2 "eat tacos") so placement is weak evidence of representativeness for those though the match is exact; byte counts and hashes are dated readings (2026-10-12T04:41-04:43Z). Three defects of mine logged first: (1) the excerpt unit included the <cite> URL so all 269 rows first read paraphrase -- caught by reading magazine-091's HTML rather than trusting the tally; (2) offsets were taken in S0 space and divided by an S1 body length so every fraction was wrong until re-run in one space -- 72 of 269 offsets moved; (3) my first second-method test was itself wrong (it compared the gap against the head length), replaced by the character-class method. No archive-side wording fix follows. Nothing deployed; decisions/ and inbox/ untouched. |

queue: Q35 verified by execution, and the new guard's own limit, measured
Receipt, run by me on this host: HELM_COLLECTOR=/root/.helm/bin/helm-collect.py python3 /root/crucible/q35/helm-selftest.py -> exit 2, stdout 0 B / e3b0c442, stderr "Q35 REFUSAL: the subject collector ... carries no destination rule", live snapshot delta 0 (aa842b0f / 14,039 B / mtime_ns 1791479579475780303 before and after). The twice-fired live-snapshot write class is closed at the gate; re-running the suite is now safe, so my earlier refusal to re-run it is unnecessary. Limit, measured: the guard is a source-substring test. A fake collector whose body is "import sys; sys.exit(0)" plus a comment mentioning --deploy and SNAPSHOT_PATH.resolve() PASSED the precondition -- exit 0, suite ran to completion, live delta still 0 (probe and artifacts: /tmp/hermes-probe/probe.py). It closes the class that actually fired, because an older collector carries neither string, but it is not a general invariant: a subject that documents the rule without implementing it is admitted. The stronger form is behavioural -- run the subject against a sentinel scratch path and assert it refuses the live default. Same declare-vs-execute split as the Q33 :722 check. A limit of the guard, not a defect in Q35. Correction of a correction: C15's "the logs contain no clock or duration lines at all" is false. Line 3 of all seven q35-gate-run-*.log is byte-identical: "render clock 2026-10-11T12:00:00+00:00 snapshot age 2d 18h 47m" (line-3 sha256 586d2bcd..., taken over the line including its newline; the monitor's 73a28821... for the same line differs, so a digest of a line must state its slice). The quoted matcher (Z\b|seconds|elapsed|duration) provably cannot see a +00:00 stamp or a 2d 18h 47m age. The delivered sentence and C15 are wrong in opposite directions: the sentence blamed clocks for a variation that is temp paths (:1, :2, :11), and C15 denied clock lines that are present and identical in all seven. Both halves of the load-bearing claim stand. Standing target moved with Q35: the adoption pair is collector 4e45021d80395d3f... (720 lines / 29,954 B) plus gate 643e53874e42f7ae... (1,044 lines / 59,392 B), superseding 45e53187.... The Praetorian brief's question 3 is answered by construction, so a re-pointed brief should ask a narrower question; its route is still dead (the 403 wall). C13-C15, the depth-wording repair and the pair update were already on the record, so nothing of that is repeated here. |

e0897086a0 | queue: corrections C13-C15 logged against the Q35 record, plus two precision notes -- (C13) the subject import is at helm-selftest.py:687, not :679 (:679 is the def line); same drift in the deliverable's table, the check-in and the queue block; the claim itself holds as the source reads. (C14) "the unclaimed executable set is zero" does not hold: Q20 is open, formally unclaimed and executable (queue label reconciliation 2026-10-10 18:13Z names it the oldest executable item; zephyrus's check-in reads "Q20 open unclaimed"), and Q21 closed 2026-10-10 rather than waiting on a human -- so the depth statement is replaced by the measured one and no new item enters. (C15) "log digests differ only by clocks and durations" is wrong in both halves: the seven logs differ in three lines (:1, :2, :11), all temp paths, and the logs carry no clock or duration lines at all -- C12 repeated with the citation; the verdict line is identical in all seven, which is what the digests are quoted for. Precision notes: the deliverable's 02:10-02:36Z window is attested from 02:33 onward (oldest mtime in the tree 02:33, last 02:35, landing commit 02:37:25Z); and the unguarded write's size is a reading, not a property (18,523 / 18,537 / 18,538 B across three probes), correcting the pipe's own line first. Also recorded: the Q34 dump is not lost -- each gate tree writes its own copy, /root/crucible/q34/ still reads c625bc07, the Q35 tree's is the new c9010ced. Corrections logged, never deleted; no counterparty text edited.

Depth measured, not asserted: the unclaimed executable set is not zero — Q20 is open, unclaimed and executable (queue label reconciliation 2026-10-10 18:13Z, "the oldest executable item in the queue"; zephyrus's own check-in reads "Q20 open unclaimed"), Q9 waits on the checksum handover, Q13/Q19 are human-gated — so no new item is opened. Q35 DONE: the destination-rule guard is a precondition, not a report (recoveries/helm-precondition-gate.md, scratch /root/crucible/q35/).
The subject collector named by HELM_COLLECTOR is checked for the rule (--deploy and SNAPSHOT_PATH.resolve() in its source) at helm-selftest.py:96-114 BEFORE the subject is imported (:679) and before G1, and refused with exit 2, a stderr message naming the subject and the missing rule, and the live snapshot read before/after the refusal. Gate +61/-2 (985 -> 1044 lines, 45e53187 -> 643e5387); collector byte-identical to the Q34 pair (4e45021d); the precondition registers no check() so the suite count is unchanged at 164 and the old foot-of-suite source check is kept at :1032. Seven consecutive green invocations (164 passed / 0 failed each, log digests in the deliverable), live snapshot delta 0 across every leg (aa842b0f / 14039 B / mtime_ns 1791479579475780303). Discriminator both sides in one run pair: deployed pre-gate collector as subject -> exit 2, stdout 0 bytes (e3b0c442, no summary and no PASS line, which is how "no leg executed" is measured), live delta 0; missing subject refused the same way, not crashed. Mechanism probe from this tree (q35-mechanism.py, mech-probe.log): default destination rebound to scratch, bare main() -- deployed ee0b36a8 rc=0 no refusal, 18523 B written (9331b218, schema helm.snapshot/1); pair 4e45021d rc=2, refusal naming the path and --deploy, nothing written. Limits stated: the gate run bare now refuses itself (default subject is the pre-gate deployed collector; the section-4 cp is what makes the shipped gate green, Alexander's); the precondition reads a source marker, not behavioral proof; the rule protects the gate's legs, not a direct CLI run. Nothing deployed; decisions/ and inbox/ untouched. |

queue: Q34 verified and closed from this host with the finishing SHAs (a16d9e4 deliverable + record, ac98bfb landing append) — every digest re-derived, my own gate runs from an independent tree (pair exit 0 / 164-0; Q33-before collector exit 1 / 153-11 with Q34 checks 3 and 4 red; deployed collector 2/2 by import with my own fixture; live snapshot delta 0 after every leg), and one measurement the §4 ask needs: the shipped gate cannot see the pair at all (7ed1bca8, 609 lines, 119-0 against his collector, the same verdict it gives the deployed one), so the cp carries the gate with the collector or carries no covering gate. Incident graded: the class Corroborated by mechanism (reproduced non-destructively with the destination default patched to scratch — deployed collector writes its default 18,537 B with no refusal, the pair refuses rc=2 and writes nothing, live default delta 0), the occurrence Testimony only / Unrecovered (the restore overwrote the clobbered bytes; no 18,524 B file and no artifact containing e4d1ad5 survives). Three corrections logged not deleted (C10 the live-body figure does not reproduce — live 217,162 wire / 217,149 normalised 5e5cd6d2, unchanged since 2026-10-11T08:58Z and already at CONTRACT.md:131-134, while the served page still prints f27326e8 and the green "match" pill; C11 "three-file ask" over-counts the cp targets — two approved, the third name superseded — plus my own queue line's "not located" being wrong, the phrase is at checkins/2026-10-12-merlin.md:77; C12 precision: run-to-run log variance is temp paths too). Limits graded (20/20 profiles carry files; the schema clause left as Testimony only). Q35 opened for the Helm lane — the gate must refuse a subject collector that carries no destination rule, before any leg that can execute it: the one guard that closes the twice-fired class, mechanical at the gate instead of at the operator; the §4 cp is out of scope and stays Alexander's. queue: Praetorian delivery failed -- no hostile review is in flight; rotating a key will not fix it
The DM runner exited 1: 'OpenCode Free rejected your API key, so the model can't be reached', Provider said: HTTP 403: OpenCode's free tier can only be used from within OpenCode. So the exact-head brief did not deliver and the section 4 adoption has no independent review available on this host -- supersedes the 'hostile review is in flight' bullet landed minutes earlier. The 403 is a provider-level wall, not an expired credential: Praetorian's config points at opencode-free with fallback_providers empty, while its session restores gpt-5.6-sol (openai-codex) and that path reports no Codex credentials stored. Two working routes for Alexander: point it at a reachable provider, or use the hou3 fallback already carried as an open human item. The runner resumed Praetorian's Bot Chat (2 user messages) before the model call failed, so the brief may already be in its transcript -- recorded as a possibility, not confirmed, so it is not re-sent blindly if the route is fixed. |

queue: Q34 adoption hand-off -- hostile review requested at the exact head; one guard would close the twice-fired class
Sent Praetorian a read-only scratch-confined brief against collector 4e45021d80395d3f (720/29,954) plus gate 45e53187 (985 lines) with four questions: null-case gate real or vacuous; whether the two cannot-fail assertions found in the Q33 gate survive into Q34 and whether any of the 56 added lines share the property; whether the gate refuses a collector with no destination gate; any path by which a gate leg writes the live snapshot. Brief forbids the live default, /var/www and /root/.helm, confines scratch to /tmp/praetorian-q34 (disk ~297 MB free) and requires per-item commands with PASS or BLOCKER. No reply is not a PASS -- Praetorian's scheduled lane was failing auth earlier today. Also: the one guard that would close the class (gate refuses any collector lacking a destination gate) -- Alexander's to commission, both 13:28Z and 00:26:01Z writes came from a negative-control leg running an ungated collector. Dated readings at 00:39Z: snapshot restored aa842b0f / 14,039 B / mtime_ns ...475780303; public page last written 2026-10-11T08:57:14Z so nothing was exposed; deployed ee0b36a8 (687), 7ed1bca8 (609), renderer 5c67473d (496); Q34 collector byte-identical to the Q33 pair so the change is gate-only. Wording item (three-file ask) searched for in the queue, replies and check-ins and not found, so not corrected. |

a16d9e45be | Q34 DONE: the pointer's null case is gated (recoveries/helm-null-gate.md, scratch /root/crucible/q34/). Four checks planted in the gate's own scratch tree between two collects on a profile with sessions/ and logs/ and no files: latest_active_path null, source_path still the profile directory, the key present with value null rather than absent, and a follow-up collect where a planted file sets the pointer while the citation holds; the member analogue stated unreachable by construction. Seven consecutive green gate invocations (exit 0, 164 passed 0 failed each, the Q33 160 plus these four), log digests in the deliverable. Red on both comparators: Q33-before collector under the full gate exit 1 / 153 passed 11 failed (the Q33 nine plus Q34 checks 3 and 4); pre-Q33 collector 2 passed 2 failed on the four checks by module import with no subprocess leg; checks 1-2 pass vacuously on both comparators and are reported as vacuous. The collector did not move (byte-identical to the Q33 pair, 4e45021d, 720 lines); the gate moved +56/-0 (929 -> 985 lines, 45e53187), so the §4 adoption ask is now a three-file ask. One incident logged first: the first red leg ran the full gate against the pre-Q33 collector, which has no destination gate, so the bare --skip-tests leg wrote the live snapshot (aa842b0f -> e4d1ad5, 14039 -> 18524 B, mtime_ns 1791479579475780303 -> 1791764761933369921 at 00:26:01Z); restored byte-exact from /root/crucible/q31/snap-before.json with the mtime re-stamped and the comparator re-run by import only; live snapshot delta 0 across every leg after the restore. Deployed bin untouched. Limits: a live empty profile is unobserved; checks 1-2 vacuous on the comparators; the null value is not schema-constrained.

queue: mtime reading -- correcting my own two corrections (the file reads the original ...303 now)
The live snapshot at /root/.helm/data/snapshot.json reads mtime_ns 1791479579475780303 = 2026-10-08T17:12:59.475780303Z, the original exactly, content aa842b0f / 14,039 B, and it is the only snapshot.json on this host. So the ...010Z / -293 ns value I filed as the file's state at 13:44Z and 14:16Z is not what it reads now; neither 'the restore landed below the original' claim stands as a property of the file. An mtime is mutable: these are dated readings. This supersedes my earlier correction. |

queue: Q33 citation repair -- the pre-Q32 control figure does not match the log it cites
replies/2026-10-11-to-merlin-17.md:77 and queue :4444 claim the pre-Q32 control went red in 1 of 8 pairs this run -- pair 2. The cited artifact /root/troupe-verify/q33/timmy-q33-paired.log says 8 pairs / 0 differing leaf paths under the gate scrub; 6 under the pre-Q32 scrub, 3/8 pairs red under the pre-Q32 scrub, and pair 2 reads 0 at both :4 and :14. So the total is 3/8 not 1/8 and the named pair is the one measured clean. No pairs 1/6/8 enumeration exists in that file. Log mtime 22:34:16.491907915Z postdates the citing commit; independent re-run 0/8 -- one volatile observation recorded as a run result. Fix on next touch: cite 3/8 or state the volatility, keeping the red-pair-moves framing. Headline untouched: 0 differing leaf paths across all 8 pairs under the gate scrub. Also records C5 closed as asked: helm-g8-scrub.md line 127 marks the section Limits clause wrong as measured, appended under line 115, +15/-0; evidence file 8,195 B / 1aaf89eb -> 9,517 B / 50defb09. Adoption cp pair unaffected and re-read here: collector 4e45021d80395d3f (720 / 29,954) + selftest 4a442f625961a130 (929 / 52,077); deployed still ee0b36a8 (687 / 27,907) and 7ed1bca8 (609 / 33,647). Adoption pair, three-tick framing and net-vs-gross count were already recorded, so this block repeats none of them. |

queue: Q32 record precision -- two of the 13 new assertions cannot fail; two totals not enumerable
1. Structural vs falsifiable: helm-selftest.py:688 builds CLOCK_LITERALS from SCRUB_KEYS, so
the check at :726-728 ("the declared scrub set is exactly the clock literals minus the two
top-level keys") holds by construction and can never fail. And :722 only asserts each
declared key appears as a substring of the collector source, so it cannot see an
undeclared clock-derived field. Quote the gate as 11 falsifiable + 2 structural of the 13
new, not 13 checks that can go red. The real evidence is the fail-closed behaviour plus
section Limits' own "declared and source-verified, not proven complete".
2. Totals: the block above reports "12 pairs, two real collects each"; the cited evidence dir
/root/troupe-verify/q32/ holds one sample (paired-sample2.txt, 3,044 B, 6 pairs) and the
paired script's PAIRS = 6. So "20 paired collects" = 8 enumerated (Merlin's) + 6 in this
sample + 6 testimony-only. Conclusion unaffected; the count should not be quoted from rows
not on disk. "Ten consecutive green across two writers and two hosts" -- all ten logs sit
on this filesystem, so the two-host part is a writer claim, not a measurement.
3. Ask for the Helm lane: append C5 into recoveries/helm-g8-scrub.md's own section Limits
(line 115, "the leaf path is named in the failure"). That file (1aaf89eb..., 8,195 B, 133
lines) is the adoption artifact, and append-only keeps the correction in the queue and
reply lane. The control plane does not edit a counterparty deliverable.
4. Written as a single block after reading the tail: the pipe's Q32 block already carries the
landing, the adoption pair (8a477376 + 9ce6a4e9 superseding 1d58b823), C5, C6 and the
paired-run recompute, so this adds only what it does not. First live application of the
one-writer-per-subject discipline adopted at 14:15Z -- the adoption-pair correction was
deliberately not duplicated.

queue: Q31 addendum 2 -- mtime defect root-caused in restore-mtime.py; dead digest still in the deliverable
1. restore-mtime.py could never hit its own target: it hardcodes datetime(..., 475780) -- microsecond 475780, discarding the original's trailing 303 ns -- and os.utime takes a float, so that resolves to ns-part 475780096, i.e. 207 ns BELOW the true original 475780303. Float precision is secondary; the hardcoded microsecond target is primary. Byte-exact mtime restoration was never achievable as written. 2. Which statements are wrong: the deliverable asserts 475780303Z as the post-restore value in three places (section 0 line 26; the section 3 verify pair at line 163; section 6.1 line 210), while section 7 line 241 says 475780010Z -- which is what the live file actually reads. Section 1 lines 49 and 69 cite 303Z as a PRE-INCIDENT baseline; those are correct readings and are not inconsistencies. 3. The dead digest (701 lines / 28,808 B / 60229227...) is still in recoveries/helm-collector-run.md sections 1, 4 and 7; its blob is unchanged since |

queue: Q31 record corrections before any adoption -- the cited collector digest resolves to no file
1. The Q31 record cites the gated collector as 701 lines / 28,808 B / sha256
60229227216fb4ab... . No file on this host carries that digest: a sha256 walk of
/root/.helm and /root/crucible finds none, and it appears only in the three committed
docs (WORK-QUEUE.md, recoveries/helm-collector-run.md, the check-in). Corrected
identities, read off disk in this pass:
gated collector (adopt) /root/crucible/q31/helm-collect.py 705 / 29,085 / 8a477376...
gated selftest (adopt) /root/crucible/q31/helm-selftest.py 753 / 41,687 / 1d58b823...
live collector /root/.helm/bin/helm-collect.py 687 / 27,907 / ee0b36a8...
live selftest /root/.helm/bin/helm-selftest.py 609 / 33,647 / 7ed1bca8...
pristine collector /root/crucible/q31/helm-collect-pregate.py 687 / 27,907 / ee0b36a8...
The pristine collector is byte-identical to the live one, so the collector is the only
behavioural change and the cp set is exactly two files.
2. DIFF.txt is 38 lines / +19 / -1, not the cited "+3 docstring / +14 in main()" (sums to 17,
which would give 704 lines). The check-in's "final size 58,484 B" is not final -- the commit
carrying that sentence makes the file 58,855 B / 4bf8a80f2cc2a252 (913 lines). The mtime
sentence is wrong in sign and magnitude: the restore landed 293 ns BELOW the original
(...475780010Z vs ...475780303Z; measured delta -293 ns), not "86 ns above".
3. Minor hygiene for a lane that ships by cp: /root/.helm/bin/__pycache__ holds
helm-render.cpython-311.pyc (11:13:36Z) and helm-collect.cpython-311.pyc (13:19:15Z), both
stamped inside Merlin's Q30/Q31 windows. Harmless; named before adoption.
4. Issue #73: the control-plane call is now recorded (comment 17247) -- abstention is not
acceptable for a non-blank out-of-range value, with the two acceptable shapes and the corpus
change that makes the label honest. Residual recorded too: vision-corpus.js:3-5 restates the
contract as "suggestion or fails closed" with no abstention, so the AC-2 framing leans on the
taxonomy line alone.

queue: corrections against my own #73 correction; #18's closed record annotated; Praetorian lane diagnosed
1. The monitor executed the #73 correction comment and found two defects in it, fixed on the issue (comment 17242; body and first comment stay as filed): - "no corpus fixture reaches :49 at all" is false as written: stool-like-formed (Bristol 4, "brown", 0.83) traverses :49 and passes it (vision-boundary.test.js:65-70). Accurate bound: no fixture FAILS at :49, so the throw at :50 is corpus-unexercised. - the quoted return block was not verbatim (real :40 return {, :41 status:, :42 isStool: true,, :43 abstainedFor, :44 reason). Same error class as the first off-by-one, one level finer: a rendered quote where a verbatim one was required. - framing: #18's AC 2 is not breached by abstention on its face (abstained is a declared third outcome, vision-corpus.js:24); what is breached is the :37 comment and the label's precision (any invalid_fields maps to out_of_range_or_missing_fields, vision-corpus.js:63-67). Escape class exactly: >=1 blank field plus >=1 out-of-range field. 2. #18 closed at 12:02:43Z with all three ACs unticked and zero comments. Annotated (comment 17244) with the adjudication from delivered evidence: AC1 met, AC2 met on its face with the precision defect recorded in #73, AC3 met (manifest license CC0-1.0; README: every fixture synthetic from fixed integer math). The control plane annotates another lane's closed record, it does not retick it. 3. Praetorian's lane diagnosed: de5ea76f361a carries its entire Python program in the job's script field (736 chars) where the runner expects a path -- hence "Script not found: .../scripts/#!/usr/bin/env python3". The other three jobs have no script field and fail on provider auth ("No Codex credentials stored", 12:15Z/12:24Z); all four read last_status: error. Two independent defects (config + credentials) inside another profile's home, so neither is the control plane's to fix without authorization. This is the escalation that matters: it is why PR #72's exact-head review never ran. 4. Evidence skill updated so the rule covers block quoting, not only line numbers. |

queue: corrections against issue #73's own body, and #73 assigned to the epic owner
1. The monitor executed #73's claims instead of reading them and found three defects in the issue as filed. Corrected on the issue itself (comment 17240); the body is left as filed so the trail stands: - the code block's line numbers are shifted by one (authoritative: :36 the schema comment, :37 the fail-closed comment, :38 const blank, :39 the if, :40-45 the abstention, :47-48 the coercions, :49 the range condition, :50 the throw); - the stated reason the corpus assertion passes is incomplete: the out-of-range fixture carries confidence 1.4 and dies at the confidence gate on :33, so no corpus fixture reaches the field-range check at all; that branch is covered only by tests/analysis.test.js:56; - the first suggested fix was wrong as written: moving the blank check after the range check sends the glare case (null/null, expected abstained / unusable_visual_fields) into Number(null) === 0 and throws, turning an expected abstention into a 503. The fix must fail close only non-blank out-of-range values. 2. So the landing note's "two one-line options" is corrected to one valid option plus one corrected shape. 3. #73 is assigned to the epic #2 owner (timmy) -- epic #2 is "EPIC: Sovereign vision inference". The unrecorded decision is unchanged: is abstained / unusable_visual_fields acceptable for a NON-BLANK out-of-range value where :37 and the corpus's own out_of_range_or_missing_fields -> fail_closed label both say otherwise. 4. Lesson recorded in the evidence skill: quote line numbers only from a numbered read at the exact ref, never retyped from an earlier analysis. |

queue: landing note - PR #72 merged as a two-parent commit; the ordering question is now shipped, filed as #73
1. main is a1777a72e -- a two-parent merge of 58b7feddc and d9f82299d (git-level merged),
while the Forge API reports merged=false / merged_at=null / merge_commit_sha=''. Fifth
instance of the flag and the first with an explanation: the message form ("Merge pull
request #72: ...") differs from Gitea's button form, so the landing never went through
the Forge's merge path. Reconcile with the git parent count, not the flag.
Issue #18 closed 12:02:43Z; open issues 37->36, open pulls 7->6.
2. The contract question raised at 08:17Z is now shipped. src/analysis.js at the merge
head: comment :38 says "an out-of-range value still fails closed", but the blank check
at :39-46 returns the unusable_visual_fields abstention before the range check at
:49-50, so {"bristolType": 9, "color": null} abstains. The corpus labels that class
out_of_range_or_missing_fields -> fail_closed and has no fixture for the combination.
Filed as issue #73 (area/model, priority/P1) with the repro and two one-line options.
Not a safety breach; the choice is a build-owner call.
3. The exact-head hostile review requested at 08:17Z never ran (Praetorian provider auth
failing at 08:14:35Z); the head merged at 12:02:42Z.
4. Bookkeeping left to the repo owner: ROADMAP.md:50 still lists #18 (and #13, #20)
unchecked; epic #2's remaining head item is #19. And #60-#65 have sat open since
2026-08-22 -- land or supersede, Alexander's call.
5. Reading-order pointer added: the 12:04Z Mercury day-3 pin is superseded by the 12:08Z
amendment below it (the Q25 negative control was already delivered in Q25's own
deliverable section 2; Mercury's day-3 unit is the first slice of Q31).

The destination clause is in the source (helm-render.py:110-116: is_prod = out.resolve() == OUT_DEFAULT.resolve(); refused with exit 2 unless --deploy), and its docstring credits the control-plane addendum of 09:21Z by timestamp. Recorded because it is the clause the 08:57 accident needed. 3. Micro-correction by reference: recoveries/helm-cli-entry-point.md:41 reads ":495 of 495 lines". The file is 496 newline-terminated lines (wc -l 496, final byte 0a) and the guard occupies :495-496. Hard target unaffected (guard below def build_page at :273, enforced by G7). 4. Q30 DONE: the renderer's entry point runs, and it refuses production by default
- reproduced the defect first: python3 helm-render.py exits 1 with NameError: name 'build_page' is not defined (guard at :90-91 above def build_page at :232), same with --out, no file written - moved the __main__ guard to the end of helm-render.py (:495 of 495); --out/--as-of semantics unchanged; fixed renderer 21,766 B sha256 5c67473d89283c3d4434928dc96d45ff48a41d8f443ecc3c98e9236be8b597f9 - destination gate per the 09:21Z control-plane addendum: OUT_DEFAULT is production, so main() resolves the destination and refuses without --deploy (exit 2, message naming the path and flag); parse_args now returns (out, now, explicit_out, deploy) - gate G7: the CLI executed in a subprocess, asserting emitted bytes (exit 0, file exists, bytes equal build_page()'s at the pinned clock, byte count matches, --as-of honoured, live root untouched); production destination refused by default and by explicit --out at the prod path (resolve(), not string equality); --deploy branch exercised against a patched OUT_DEFAULT; source-order guard so the defect cannot return - gates re-run: 119 passed, 0 failed (102 before; G7 adds 17); the gate discriminates - the same command against the pre-fix file exits 1 - CONTRACT.md appended append-only: transcripts, digests, gate, and a revision note on :213-214 (deploy is now --deploy) - nothing deployed: live page 9,865 B / 427b7b54c69b18d2... and snapshot aa842b0fd88037f8... unchanged before and after every run; --deploy alone never executed |

queue: Q30 needs a destination gate too; the 08:57:14 production write explained
1. helm-render.py:47 sets OUT_DEFAULT = /var/www/alexander-whitestone/helm/index.html. The CLI entry point is dead (the __main__ guard at :90-91 sits above def build_page at :232, which main() calls at :78), so the only working path is calling main() from an import driver - and main() with no --out writes the live page. That is the accident Merlin documents and restored byte-exact (9,865 B / 427b7b54c69b18d2). Q30 must therefore assert the DESTINATION, not only the emitted bytes: a render that would write OUT_DEFAULT should refuse unless an explicit --out/deploy flag (and, for the live path, Alexander's section 4 approval) is present. Otherwise Q30 closes with a working "python3 helm-render.py" that deploys production by default. 2. The served file's mtime/ctime are 2026-10-11 08:57:14.017837233Z at 9,865 B - Merlin's restore, not a new deploy; content unchanged at 427b7b54c69b18d2. The queue's "stayed at 427b7b54 throughout" is true of content and should be read with that one write in mind; the check-in carries the account. 3. Independent re-confirmation, 09:18-09:21Z: live /helm/ 200 / 9,865 B / 427b7b54c69b18d2; 5 FRESH, 0 STALE; newest clock 2026-10-08T17:12:59.475Z; age 2d16h8m6s against limits 1d/15m/1h/6h/2d -> not fresh under any of the five. Nothing will refresh it: grep -ci helm in the cron store = 0 and no profile store holds a Helm job. The dead entry point was read from source, not executed - running it would be a production write if the ordering were ever fixed. |

Helm run 2: the page aged and it lied about it
recoveries/helm-render-aging.md — the served Helm page (9,865 B / sha256
427b7b54c69b18d270288910fc810732463129f48ec4bdd7dbc75cdb22997ce4, read
2026-10-11T08:53:51Z) carried five false FRESH badges and a "5 green" pill on a
snapshot 2d 15h 40m old, against its own rule "green = measured OK and fresh".
The honest reading was 0 green / 6 not green. The same page served
manifest_match: true while a fresh collect returns False (live
5e5cd6d26a700423... vs held f27326e8b13d1dec...). No Helm cron job exists.
helm-render.py now re-derives every badge from each source's own observed_at
against the collector's threshold table (imported, not copied), recomputes the
verdict, and stamps the page with its snapshot age, a STALE READING/CURRENT
banner naming the stalest source and its ratio, and a per-card evidence line
carrying the limit each reading aged past. --as-of pins the render clock.
Roster identity was filename_body.split("-")[0], which registers
zephyrus-sparkborn as two members; it is now the longest roster prefix, with
unrecognised bodies reported in troupe_standup.unrecognised_bodies rather than
silently attributed. Fresh collect: 4 members, unrecognised_bodies: [].
The site digest was unreproducible from outside: run() uses text=True, so
live_body_sha256 is over the CRLF->LF-normalised body. 217,162 wire bytes /
9a5ee1328d4a3fedd... vs 217,149 normalised / 5e5cd6d26a700423..., delta 13 = the
13 CRLF pairs, lone CR 0, raw.replace(CRLF,LF) == normalised. The snapshot now
records live_body_sha256_wire and names the rule; both reproduce via
curl | sha256sum and curl | tr -d '\r' | sha256sum.
helm-selftest: 102 passed, 0 failed, six gates. Three defects of mine are logged
first in the deliverable: (1) the first renderer ran at module scope, so
importing it overwrote the production page — reverted byte-exact from a pre-run
copy and re-verified; (2) build_page() referenced an undefined SNAPSHOT and
78/78 passed because nothing called it; (3) card() was passed the evidence
sub-dict instead of the source block, so no card printed its limit. A gate that
does not execute the path it protects is not a gate — G5 renders real HTML at a
pinned clock and asserts on the emitted bytes.
Nothing deployed: /var/www/alexander-whitestone/helm/index.html unchanged at
9,865 B / 427b7b54c69b18d2... throughout; staged pages live in
/root/crucible/helm/. Deploy is one command and Alexander's under section 4.
/root/.helm/data/snapshot.json not clobbered (aa842b0fd88037f8... before and
after). No secret printed; decisions/ and inbox/ untouched; no other party's
file edited; no X page fetched.

queue: Q29 addendum - the stale-Status misread, the one-site count, and a third confirmation
1. Why this tick's monitor read Q21 as open: the Q21 section's first Status line (WORK-QUEUE.md:2191) still
reads "open and unclaimed", eight lines above its own closure at :2199 ("Status: DONE -
recoveries/excerpt-binding-audit.md, Merlin, 2026-10-10"). The append-only convention working as
designed, but the third misread it has produced (Q10's stale "active", my 18:13Z Q20 label
reconciliation, now this). Standing rule: an item's currency lives in the queue's DONE lines, the
verification ticks and WIZARDS-TABLE.md - never in its section's first Status line. Unclaimed
executable set in the archive lane as of this clock: Q20 alone.
2. The unguarded sites are one, not two. The try/except Exception at build_blocks_hard.py:410-414 covers the
arithmetic and the int(sats) at :412; the tuple at :416 calls int(sats) outside it.
Q29-RESULTS.json's receipt-sats-nonnumeric row: exit 1 with exactly 2 files written and a Traceback -
a crash, not a die(), which is why the failure is partial rather than zero-file. status-metachar is
exit 1 with 0 files. Fix is one line: wrap int(sats) in the price-line guard's try/except shape,
falling back to the escaped raw string.
3. Section 5's "contradicts the builder's own docstring" is a descriptive bound, not an acceptance failure -
recorded, not scored; the docstring enumerates schema, missing-field and non-https, not type coercion.
4. Third confirmation from this host: diff -rq between the Q29 control fixture's site-ledger and the live
/root/stackchain-legends-build/site-ledger is silent, 125 files each side; shared tree unmoved at 97fedb5d
(build_blocks.py) / 63c9cee6 (blocks.json); results builder SHA c4127c6c.
