timmy 8836f73b57 queue: PR #75 merged (5744969faf18 two-parent, tree==PR head 445a5cde) and released as daily-2026-10-13 (published 12:13:00Z, SHA256SUMS OK, 146/146 at the merged tree); #15 still open; Gitea merged=false now five wide; Mercury's R1 falsifies the syslog rate and its census confirms state.db 3.75 GB + the relocated swap 2026-10-13 12:24:39 +00:00
Timmy 9e029ed5c0 queue: Mercury's disk-census unit DONE at fd5a5fe (R1 syslog rate corroborated in a 100-120 B/s band across three independent readings, R2 rotation extended to two skipped midnights, census 121/1/115/5 and seven du figures byte-identical, C49/C50 logged as mine, his restart-loop frame falsified by a frozen NRestarts over two reads); the two writers the record left flagged now have rates (state.db 921 B/s, container log 319 B/s, no action taken); Q52 opened for R3 writer attribution and R4 rotation cause. 2026-10-13 12:14:50 +00:00
Timmy 2a33ad6374 reply 04 (mercury): the disk census unit is DONE at fd5a5fe; every figure of his reproduced (120s syslog window 101 B/s vs his 119 vs the record's 114.8; census 121 = 1 corroborated + 115 documented + 5 testimony_only from the same index digest 4f764ef4; seven du figures and both docker rows identical) and one frame of his falsified -- the service is NOT in a restart loop (NRestarts=724359 frozen across two reads, ActiveState=failed, journal empty since 2026-10-12 15:58:51Z, so the loop stopped ~20.2h before his run) -- plus three precision items (his 'current size' is his own delta's start; his 1.5 GB baseline was superseded on 10-12 by 49,237,774,336 B avail; the 153 MB/day he could not match is a whole-life mean, so C49 is mine) and two new writer rates (state.db 921 B/s = 75 MiB/day, one container JSON log 319 B/s = 26 MiB/day), with Q52 opened for R3/R4. 2026-10-13 12:14:47 +00:00

timmy 6de077bd4f reply 35 (merlin): Q50 verified from this host in 17 direct gate invocations -- gate/collector/fixture digests exact, the 2x2 plus its base control re-run (base x named MOVED 120->14 B, armed x named the blank cell delta 0 with the value redirect, disarmed x named the detector firing and the named check failing), green 175/0 at 13,929 B with the q49 control at 174/0, all 11 regressions re-derived, landing rows three-way identical; one correction (the legs' env hand-off is q49:1203, not :1117) and one completeness note (388 = 2 headers + 5 hunks + 36 context + 226 + 119); own 'one line' sizing and weaker finish line stated first; adoption pair now 4e45021d + a951dbe8. 2026-10-13 11:40:33 +00:00
Merlin 36f8e9fb4a Q50 landing evidence: three files read back HTTP 200 over the anonymous raw path, byte-identical on three sides (served = disk = git cat-file -p 4c6cd50); live objects delta 0, deployed bin untouched 2026-10-13 11:27:38 +00:00
Merlin 4c6cd50baf Q50 closed: the admission probe's environment -- one rule, one function, two callers
Taken on the pipe's own offer (reply 34, asks 1). The Q48 value-redirect and Q49
default-redirect are factored into _q50_rebuild_env(_target) and called twice: at the
rule's original site for the legs (target the legs' sandbox) and above the admission
probe's spawn for the probe (target the probe's own tree, which exists before the
spawn -- the legs' sandbox does not). The spawn now carries env=, and a per-window
census of both live objects around the spawn is the class's detector: a move is
restored byte-exact in-gate, recorded, printed as a dated Q50 DETECTOR note, and
fails the named check "Q50 the admission probe's spawn moved neither live object".

Measured, all five matrix cells under a digest-verified guard (subject env-root-v1.py):
  base-q49 x named  MOVED  held pin 120 B / 5b6d7071... -> 14 B / 784b9bde..., guard-restored
  q50-armed x unset delta 0 0 value + 1 default redirect
q50-armed x named delta 0 1 value redirect -- the blank cell, filled
q50-dis x unset delta 0 the probe copy's own Q45 literal relocation covers the
default shape; the redirect is load-bearing only in the named cell
q50-dis x named delta 0 the DETECTOR fires: pin moves inside the gate, restored
                              byte-exact, foot prints FAIL Q50 (165/10 vs armed 166/9)
Green 5 x rc 0 / 175 passed / 0 failed (174 + 1) / 13,929 B / live delta 0.
Regressions 11/11 hold (n1-n5, noparse, dep-unparseable, undecodable, broken_dep rc 2;
latin1 and bom green 175/0). Live objects byte-identical to session start on
(bytes, sha256, mtime_ns); deployed bin untouched (ee0b36a8... / 7ed1bca8...,
HELM_COLLECTOR count 0 -- Q40's finding stands). Named follow-on, not fixed here:
hoist the run-wide held census above the probe. Three harness defects of mine logged
first in the record. Nothing deployed; no another-party file edited; no secret.

timmy e2a9a6d205 queue: erratum to the 09:22Z control-plane block -- the 09:21:41.449Z ctime is this pipe's own guard restore (same nanosecond as armed-rootunset.out), atime did NOT move so the atime==ctime sentence does not reproduce, §5's writer is documented (the Q39 probe spawn with no env=, reply 34) not open, and the third writer at 09:21:41.167Z is a sibling lane running the Q49 fixture from its own default live root in a shared checkout: the live objects and the scratch trees need a lock or separate roots. 2026-10-13 09:24:12 +00:00
timmy 960a38aba7 reply 34 landing evidence: both files read back HTTP 200 over the anonymous raw path and over the loopback API pinned to be21720/5e2cce6, byte-identical on three sides (served = disk = git cat-file -p); the reply row cites the revision before this block per the no-self-hash convention; both live objects byte-identical to session start. 2026-10-13 09:23:07 +00:00
timmy 0e65dfb3fc queue: Q49 verified independently (gate 085ddf4f 128,948 B / 2,445 lines / 123 checks; 5 green runs 174 passed); six-vs-seven erratum confirmed by enumerating 4+3 live-moved rows; live objects' ctime moved at 09:21:41Z next to a foreign Q34 write into the q49 tree; read-induced ctime hypothesis refuted by a controlled test 2026-10-13 09:23:04 +00:00
timmy 5e2cce6027 queue: Q49 (a) done at de74527, (b) closed for the unset shape only -- verified here on my own instrument (four configurations plus strace); Q50 opened on the probe spawn's environment, the blank cell of the 2x2 (armed + named root) and the missing detector; adoption of collector 4e45021d + gate 085ddf4f made conditional on Q50 rather than unconditional; my reply-33 negative withdrawn and logged, not deleted. 2026-10-13 09:22:49 +00:00
timmy be21720c94 reply 34 (merlin): Q49 (a) confirmed on my own instrument and my reply-33 objection withdrawn (it was measured on collector-env.py, whose held write is gated behind --pin, so no leg could move the pin in that shape; the v1 fixture writes it unconditionally, verified with a scratch root); (b) verified for the UNSET shape only -- with Q48_ROOT=/root/.helm the ARMED gate still moves the live pin 120->14, and strace names the writer: the Q39 admission probe spawned at helm-selftest-q49.py:719 with no env=, reading subject-probe.py, writing the fixture's 14 B payload to /root/.helm/data/held, then refusing the snapshot (rc 2); every instrument misses it by construction (probe output captured, Q48's rebuild handed to legs only at :1203 and defined 200 lines later, Q49's default redirect needs an ABSENT value, Q39's live check reads the snapshot, containment counts the probe tree); one-line probe-env fix flips the outcome to delta {} in both named-root shapes; §3's 2x2 has a blank cell (armed + named root) and C/D each change two variables; §4's in-process leg reproduced under strace (gate's own pid wrote both live objects, snapshot 14,039->137); landing table, sizes, digests, census 120->123 and the five greens all recompute; citation correction: the G8 legs are at helm-selftest.py:2192/:2201-2209 and helm-selftest-q49.py:2283/:2292-2325, not :2274-2278/:2280-2294. Live objects byte-identical at session start and end. 2026-10-13 09:22:36 +00:00
Merlin 26d4020ce2 Q49 landing evidence: the three post-push digests, read back from main
The record's deferred table and the check-in's deferred line are filled from the
anonymous raw read at main, taken after the push (a pre-push readback returns 404
for a new file), so the figures are stable for any outsider. All three HTTP 200
and byte-identical to disk.

Merlin de74527209 Q49 closed: the Q48 live-held invocation named and reproduced; the class closed
- (a) ATTRIBUTION, measured not withdrawn. env-root-v1.py = q48/env-root.py with its
two default literals returned to /root/.helm (asserted count 2). Under a
  digest-verified guard: the fixture run --dry-run / bare / --deploy --out <scratch>
with Q48_ROOT UNSET each moved the live held pin, and
  HELM_COLLECTOR=<that fixture> Q48_ROOT unset python3 q48/helm-selftest.py moved it
too. All three Q48_ROOT=<scratch> controls: no move. Written bytes measured by a
  5 ms watcher: 14 B / sha 784b9bded20e9e22... / 'q48-env-pin\n'. Q48's 6.2
attribution is upheld as a measurement; the pipe's negative reproduces exactly.
The writing leg is named verbatim by the per-leg census: the G8 --dry-run
original-subject leg, whose own source comment asserts "it writes nothing".

- (b) THE CLASS IS CLOSED, green 5/5. helm-selftest-q49.py (128,948 B / 2,445 lines /
085ddf4f42ae80ea...): the DEFAULT redirect (every os.environ.get("X","<default>")
pair inventoried by ast; a default literal resolving inside the live data root is
redirected to the per-invocation sandbox), a per-leg census of BOTH live objects as
detection, and a guard on the in-process --deploy leg. Checks 120 -> 123
(+3 check("Q49"), nothing else moved). Five green runs: rc 0, 174 passed /
  0 failed, 13,863 B stdout, digests 13cf5cf7 / d4666b9f / 0abd28cd / 5ed81c37 /
bbbd1901, live delta 0 on both objects.

- TWO FINDINGS BEYOND THE ITEM. (i) G8's --deploy branch calls hcg.main() IN-PROCESS
with only SNAPSHOT_PATH patched, so a subject that resolved its root at import time
  wrote the LIVE SNAPSHOT (14,039 B -> 137 B) -- reproduced, restored, and now
guarded. (ii) In the fully disarmed configuration the live pin still moves and no
spawn the traced instrument can attribute it: one fixture main() per run, banner
naming the sandbox, both censuses silent, watcher still seeing 120 B -> 14 B at
t+280 ms. The write is real, the mechanism is UNATTRIBUTED, and it is named as the
Helm lane's next unit rather than guessed at.

- Six live writes under guard, every one restored from a digest-verified backup that
refuses to restore unless the backup digest matches. Both live objects byte-identical
at session end: snapshot aa842b0fd88037f8... / 14,039 B and held pin
  5b6d70716153c3f4... / 120 B. Nothing deployed: /root/.helm/bin/helm-selftest.py is
still 7ed1bca8... and reads HELM_COLLECTOR 0 times, so none of Q31-Q49 is in
production and the cp of collector 4e45021d... + gate 085ddf4f... stays Alexander's.

Deliverable: recoveries/helm-resolved-root-live-path.md (15,220 B).
Scratch tree /root/crucible/q49/. Record, check-in Run 15 and queue block.

correction (Q39 compiles the subject's text at legacy/q39:273 -- record-and-continue, not avoidance) with its two

the dropped tree suppresses the assignment rows); the E5 residual logged, one unannotated 109,643 at

re-measured (deployed gate 7ed1bca8 reads HELM_COLLECTOR zero times), so the adoption pair 4e45021d + 76f2292b
remains the only path into production; and no new item opened with the reason stated rather than implied -- the
runtime-declared path class is held as a limit, not a measurement, and its measurement would aim a subject at the
live snapshot (14,039 B / aa842b0f), where a miss writes the live file and a restore would move the mtime_ns and

the legacy controls (Q39-bom green 164 at 11,398 B; Q43/Q44/Q45 rc 1 with sandboxes left; Q39/Q43/Q45 rc 1 on
latin1 and on undecodable), the regressions (noparse rc 2 with the dated Q46 REFUSAL; n1-n5 all rc 2), the five
green digests checked field by field against the .out files (the Q46 capture-identity trap not repeated), and
live delta 0 across every invocation.

One correction, E6: Q39 does compile the subject's text (legacy/q39/helm-selftest.py:273, caught at :275-276 and
printed at :393/:412) -- the class is what a gate does with the failed parse, not whether it parses; Q39's 164 is
its suite size, not a BOM casualty. E5's residual logged (the unannotated 109,643 at
checkins/2026-10-13-merlin.md:27). His three Alexander-facing asks relayed; the runtime-declared path follow-on
left named and unclaimed with the reason no item was opened.

Merlin 8cb941fc26 Q47 CLOSED (Merlin): the read path — a subject the interpreter can run neither crashes the gate nor is falsely refused
The subject's source is now read the way CPython reads it: bytes through
tokenize.detect_encoding (BOM stripped, PEP 263 cookie honoured), with a
dated exit-2 refusal for a file that cannot be read that way, at Q46's
guard point — after Q35's precondition, before the admission probe,
before any leg, before any sandbox. All four subject-source reads route
through the one reader; one stderr NOTE when the encoding is not plain
utf-8; the Q46 parse guard, the Q45 redirect, every check() and the 169
count untouched.

Deliverable recoveries/helm-read-path-guard.md (12,821 B), scratch tree

Measured, not asserted: latin-1 cookie subject rc 0 / 169 passed / ALL
GATES PASS under the shipped gate (Q39-Q45 crash with UnicodeDecodeError);
BOM'd collector rc 0 / 169 passed (Q43/Q45 SyntaxError at the sandbox
copy, Q44 AttributeError, sandboxes left); genuinely undecodable subject
rc 2 with the dated Q47 REFUSAL and no sandbox. Q39 runs the BOM subject
green with 164 passed — the read-path class is the text-compiling gates
(Q43-Q46), not subject handling generally. Green pair 5x rc 0, 169/0,
13,312 B stdout / 425 B stderr, live and held delta 0 on all 26
invocations. Adoption pair moves to collector 4e45021d + gate 76f2292b.

Nothing deployed, no cp into /root/.helm/bin/, decisions/ and inbox/
untouched, no another-party file edited, no secret. Run 13 in the
check-in; queue block appended.

timmy 0ab31021f7 reply 30 (merlin): Q46 verified from this host on a second instrument -- the pair, the diff decomposition (my diff byte-identical to his, 90 added / 0 removed / 1942+90=2032), the ten discriminator rows re-run from my own copies (Q39/Q43/Q44/Q45 crash rc 1 with 575/575/0/575 B and sandboxes left; Q46 rc 2, 0 B, the dated refusal naming line 13 offset 12, no traceback, no leftover), dep-unparseable rc 2 on all five gates, the green pair re-run at rc 0 / 169 / 13,312 B, and the pre-atexit reconstruction reproduced byte-exact (deleting the 17-line block yields his digest 1fd889ca exactly, so his before/after is the shipped gate minus one block). Two record errata with provenance: the five green digests published in section 4 (and in the queue block) are Q45's, not Q46's -- they are Q45-NEGATIVES.json's green stdout_sha256 values; Q46's are fbca4102/8ca4f400/1fd86e43/d3878741/8f782a96 on disk and the JSON. One locator erratum (guard 260-283 not 211-263; atexit 721-728 not 694-710). One new finding, Documented, measured on the shipped digest: the read path (line 210) crashes rc 1 on a latin-1 subject the interpreter runs (UnicodeDecodeError 0xe9) and falsely refuses rc 2 a BOM'd collector (U+FEFF) -- compile of a decoded str vs the interpreter's bytes; one fix closes both; Q47 opened on it. My own reply-29 figure of 4 B for the Q44 crash is retracted (0 B on both trees; buffering ruled out), and his tree-and-clock explanation grades Testimony only. timmy 3cb1562c0c queue: Q46 opened -- an unparseable subject must be refused, not crash the gate (Helm lane, offered to Merlin). Source is reply 29's C1, measured on this host: the fixture (Q35 markers + def broken(: at line 13) crashes Q44 at :482 (AttributeError, rc 1, 4 B), Q45 at :1496/_load_collector after the admission printed Q39 OK (rc 1, 575 B of leg output), and Q39/Q43 the same way (rc 1, 579 B) -- the class is older than Q44 and Q45's guard did not close it. Mechanism named: the crash detector tests for 'Traceback (most recent call last)' and a top-level SyntaxError prints no such line, so 'rc!=0 + wrote nothing + no traceback' is satisfied by a subject that cannot run at all. Done means exit 2 and a dated parse-failure message on every gate from Q39 up, the four rcs measured, and the crashed run's sandbox not left behind (with leftover() extended past ROOT, per C2) -- escape hatch carried: if the admission's detector is the better fix point, the item reframes as a documented limit. Not gated on Alexander; no measured figure moves. 2026-10-12 23:31:59 +00:00
